Colorado State football coach Sonny Lubick today announced the signing of 24 signees to national letters of intent, the first day under NCAA guidelines prospective student-athletes can formally agree to attend a respective institution. The list includes a pair of junior college transfers - one who is already enrolled in school and another who joins the program next fall.

According to assistant football coach Marc Lubick, who is now in charge of recruiting Florida for Colorado State, approximately 305 Division I prep players from the state of Florida signed with Division I programs. Marc's dad, head coach Sonny Lubick, believes the state is behind only California and Texas when it comes to football talent.

Now that the scholarships have been filled and the letters of intent have been signed, the best of the remaining prep athletes will be looking for programs where they can walk on. Colorado State has invited a handful of players to be "preferred walk-ons", meaning they'd be a part of the 105-player group that is allowed to practice before the start of classes in the fall. Quarterback derby: McDougal and Neuenfeldt join a suddenly crowded QB corps

With Wednesday’s signing of Arvada West’s Sean McDougal (6-1.5, 200 lb) and Scottsdale, Ariz.’s Nick Neuenfeldt (6-4, 240 lb), Colorado State will have five scholarship quarterbacks on its roster for the first time in several years. Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Dan Hammerschmidt said the Rams have been playing with fire by only carrying three the past few years, but thanks to the latest signees, they now have depth and a lot of healthy competition.

Rams nab only six in-state players, but insist Colorado is Priority No. 1

Colorado State's in-state numbers were a tad down this year, dropping from nine Colorado preps in each of the past two years to six this year. But, head coach Sonny Lubick assured Wednesday that patrolling the state is still the staff's top priority.

The Rams once again have a recruiting class that may lack sizzle on the surface, but upon looking deeper yields optimism. A key summarization for this year’s class is balance. CSU signed some good athletes, while addressing some pressing needs at tight end and safety, and filling out depth along both lines.

Rams find limited success in recruiting the old stomping grounds –- San Diego

Colorado State used to make a killing recruiting in San Diego County. This year the Rams struck out on several good prospects, but did manage to land a potential star in La Jolla High School linebacker/defensive end Mike Maracle (6’5”/200 lb). Maracle will sign with CSU after plenty of influence from former Rams E.J. Watson and Anthony Hill, who are assistants at La Jolla.

When Michigan State transfer Bradlee Van Pelt made his move to Colorado State and created a legacy for himself as one of the most gifted, athletic quarterbacks to ever play at the university, he forced the Ram coaching staff to re-think its love affair with pure drop-back passing quarterbacks. Last year, the Rams signed mobile quarterback Grant Stucker, and this year have added two more, including freshly committed Nick Neuenfeldt who gave a verbal this week.

CSU adds another McDougal/Bell type by nabbing Miami Dade County’s leading rusher

Colorado State will soon have the distinction of sporting two former Dade County leading rushers on its 2006 roster. CSU gained a commitment this week from Miami Columbus High School running back John Mosure (5'10"/200 lb), who led Dade County in rushing this past season with 1,534 yards and 22 touchdowns and was selected as first-team All-Dade County.

It used to be that Colorado State liked to recruit pure drop-back passers. The incredible career of Bradlee Van Pelt has seemingly changed that as Ram coaches are now publicly declaring their desire to have mobile athletes at the quarterback position. CSU already received a verbal commitment from All-Colorado quarterback Sean McDougal, but the Rams are giving strong looks to two other athletic signal-callers--and may be serious about signing them.

Colorado State graduates three senior offensive linemen this year and the team is looking to the junior college ranks for help securing the line for next season. The Rams recently received a verbal commitment from El Camino Community College lineman Marvin Arnold (6’3”/285 lb). Arnold was a starting tackle, but could play guard as well.
