As the season winds down recruiting crunch time is setting in. With a relatively small senior class and 14 commitments the Rams 2011 freshmen class is close to being complete. Of course scholarships could open up between now and the start of the spring semester. CSU has utilized greyshirt offers to help close this gap between scholarships opening up during the off-season.

Recent offers that have gone out include quarterback Jaleel Awini (6’3”/195 lbs) of Aurora Rangeview. Rangeview (11-0) is coming off a second-round playoff win over Arvada West on Saturday. Awini threw for 184 yards and rushed for 71 yards. This could be a pattern for Steve Fairchild. Get a pro-style quarterback to commit then offer a greyshirt to a “athlete” type quarterback. Last year after signing Pete Thomas, the Rams were able to get Garrett Grayson to greyshirt. Grayson will enroll at CSU for spring semester as a quarterback. Grayson is a good enough athlete to play safety or receiver at some point. Awini also could see a position change at some point down the road as his speed is an asset. Awini has an offer from Eastern Washington in addition to CSU.

Also getting an offer from CSU is defensive end Josh Scarlett (6’2”/230lbs) from Wylie, Texas. Scarlett does not have any other Division 1 offers. Wylie enters the first-round of the Texas 3A state playoffs this week.

Ram commitment Davon Riddick rolled off 176 yards and a third-quarter 70 yard touchdown run in Abilene Cooper High School’s 41-6 win over Arlington Lamar in the first-round of the Texas 5A state playoffs. Highlights

Connor Smith did not fair as well in the Fort Bend Travis playoff game. Travis fell to League City, Texas Clear Creek High School 37-34 Saturday night. Smith threw a second-quarter interception in the end-zone that was returned 100 yards.
