Bill "Doc" Sullivan

As you all know by now, our good friend and fellow Ram fan Dr. Bill Sullivan (“Doc”) has moved from the cheap seats to a skybox. Bill has touched so many people’s lives in immense ways as a family man, pediatrician, sports fan, golf partner, and caring Christian.

While the pain we feel from his loss is heavy, we are afforded an opportunity unlike at any other time at RamNation.com. We’ve done some wonderful things as a fan group that visits this great website. Gifts for coaches, athletic department fundraisers, assisting people in times of need, etc., but now we have a chance to honor one of our own.

It was Bill’s desire that money be donated to the CSU Athletic Department in lieu of flowers. But we are setting our goal much higher because we believe Bill deserves it. Our goal is to endow a CSU athletic scholarship in the name of Dr. Bill Sullivan. To do that we must raise a minimum of $25,000.

It is a sum far greater than anything we have raised at RamNation.com. But we’ve never had the resources of the CSU athletic department who are already hard at work in helping us reach this goal through their contacts within the medical community of Fort Collins.

But we won’t be able to achieve it without significant donations from our RamNation faithful. I realize that we are all in differing financial positions – some of us can easily write a check, others are students or recent grads just trying to make ends meet, and the majority of us are somewhere in the middle.

But this is different.

For those of us who say we can’t afford it, I am issuing a challenge. Make a small sacrifice. In my case, I will go without cigars for a month which will allow me to write a check for $100. For some of you out there, it may be as easy as eating at home rather than eating out. Or as difficult as drinking water rather than a beer or mixed drink when out on a Friday night. If we can get 250 posters to contribute $100 each, we can reach our goal of $25,000 without the help of the corporate community.

And it will be worth it. Because we will have done something that we’ve never done before. We’ll be able to gather at Hughes Stadium before a game this fall and celebrate Doc’s life and our accomplishment together. For those of you who made a choice to contribute money that would have gone to beer, I make you the following promise – the cold one I serve you at Hughes stadium that day will taste better than any other you’ve had in your life. And for all of us, I make you a bigger promise. You will be the recipient of a standing ovation from Doc watching from his skybox that will warm your heart unlike any other time in your life.
