Coach Hilbert gets 500th career victory as Rams sweep Falcons at Moby Arena | November 5, 2009
Just more than one year after becoming the winningest coach in Colorado State history, Tom Hilbert added yet another milestone victory to his coaching résumé on Thursday night. The Rams’ head coach, now in his 21st season overall and 13th at CSU, won his 500th career match by leading Colorado State (19-4, 11-1 MWC) to victory over the Air Force Falcons (8-17, 0-12 MWC) in front of 1,092 fans at Moby Arena. Gartrell Johnson was the lone Colorado State Ram to be selected in the 2009 NFL Draft Sunday, as he was taken by the San Diego Chargers in the fourth round (134th pick overall). He'll be joined by tight end Kory Sperry, who was surprisingly not drafted, but signed by the Chargers as a free agent. Former CSU quarterback Billy Farris is headed to Cincinnati via the free agency route, while running back Kyle Bell was signed by Jacksonville. Several other Rams hope to sign free agent contracts in the coming days. more

CSU decides it will scrimmage Saturday morning anyway | April 18, 2009
Colorado State University is conducting a scrimmage today afterall. With forecasts calling for up to 7 inches of new snowfall, causing safety concerns for fans, the athletic department announced Friday that the spring football game and all related activities had been canceled. However, the team will, in fact, conduct a full practice, including a lengthy, full-contact scripted scrimmage, late this morning (sometime after 11 a.m.) at Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium. It may not be advisable for fans to try to attend, though, as walkways will not be plowed, restrooms will not be opened, and there could be safety hazards. more

Men's and women's hoops out of MWC tourney...already | March 11, 2009
Colorado State capped a disappointing season with possibly the biggest stinker of the year, falling 71-67 to Air Force (10-20) in the play-in game of the Mountain West Conference tournament Wednesday night in Las Vegas. The Falcons had gone 18 years since last winning a conference tournament game, and had gone 0-for-16 in MWC play this season. The Rams' season ends with a record of 9-22 -- only a two-game improvement on last year's dreadful showing. The women, meanwhile, fell 62-48 to New Mexico in the quarterfinals just one night after upsetting Wyoming. The Lady Rams finished the season at 10-21. more
