The CSU men’s basketball team tips off their 2005-06 regular season tonight when it makes the short bus trip to Greeley to face the University of Northern Colorado Bears (7 p.m. MT). And the fabric of the opener is woven with several subplots.
CSU begins the Matt Nelson-less era with new players and a new up-tempo style...the Rams are trying to break a 20-game road losing streak…The game will be inside a raucous, sold-out Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion on the UNC campus…It will be a homecoming for CSU center Jason Smith who grew up a few minutes down the road in Kersey, Colo.

Game 11 at UNLV--Colorado State likely has a bowl game in its grasp if it can beat 2-8 UNLV. Problem is, that kind of reward has proven not to motivate the Rams in the past. Will they visit Las Vegas and come up with the big victory they need to become bowl eligible? Or, will they conclude their season with a wimper, much like they did in 2004. One of the most heated topics on the RamNation message boards since Colorado State’s disappointing 30-10 loss to San Diego State, has been the Rams’ bowl worthiness should they beat UNLV this week in the regular season finale. Some fans think a potentially 6-5 CSU team going to a bowl game is worthless.
Don't tell that to players like senior Travis Garcia, who wants nothing more than to extend the season another month.

A 5-0 home record, a bowl berth, and sending the senior class out on a high note at home were just a few of the things at stake for Colorado State Saturday as they hosted San Diego State.
Yet it was the Aztecs, a 3-6 team that had nothing to play for, that played as if there was no tomorrow. The Rams saw their perfect home season, and possibly their chances of playing in a bowl game, blown away in a 30-10 loss on a blustery afternoon at Hughes Stadium.

The Jeckyll and Hyde CSU women's volleyball team improved to 15-7 (8-4 in Mountain West Conference play) with a dramatic win at 16th-ranked BYU Friday night at the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah. CSU won in five games: 30-28, 30-23, 27-30, 28-30, 17-15.
Tess Rogers had a match-high 24 kills in the victory.

Saturday at Hughes Stadium, Colorado State fans will say goodbye to a total of 14 players--the largest senior class in Sonny Lubick’s 13-year tenure. Among the group is the greatest wide receiver in school history, one of the most prolific passing quarterbacks in recent history, stalwart linemen, and several impact defenders. Every one of them has been a significant contributor during their careers.

All the Rams have to do is get by lowly San Diego State (3-6 overall, 2-4 in Mountain West Conference play) Saturday and they’ll become bowl eligible. Despite their annual underachievement, the Aztecs have won two of three at Hughes Stadium, and there are lying in wait hoping for another upset Saturday. Can the Rams avoid the ambush or will they take a major step towards the postseason? Our prognosticators give you their views.
