Wednesday is an important day for Colorado State football, as more than 20 recruits are expected to finally sign on the dotted line, making their commitment official with a Letter of Intent. The CSU Sports Information Department will announce signees as their faxes arrive, will have player bios, a live feed to head coach Jim McElwain's press conference (1 p.m. MT), and the full transcript available. So check back throughout the day for updates.

Redesigning CSU's football uniforms

Driven by newfound excitement due to the new hiring of A.D. Jack Graham and subsequent hiring of Jim McElwain as head football coach, 1999 CSU grad and ad agency Creative Director Peter Brown, whipped up some modern-looking helmets that sparked excitement, interest, and conversation on the RamNation message boards. The helmets, in turn, then encouraged 2008 grad and interactive agency Senior Web Developer Mike Lander to design some "Nike Combat" uniforms to match the helmets. (The accompanying Ram logo is a slightly redesigned version created by another CSU grad -- Kyle Stopperan, owner of Stopperan Graphics and RamificationsCSU.com blogger.) For 10 long days and several sleepless nights, new Colorado State University Athletic Director Jack Graham scoured the country in search of securing a head football coach to replace Steve Fairchild, who was fired December 4. At a noon press conference Tuesday, Graham will announce the new coach -- Jim McElwain, who has served as Alabama's offensive coordinator the past four seasons.

Colorado State came back from a 21-13 deficit at Utah State, scoring on a one-yard run by Chris Nwoke with 42 seconds left and making the two-point conversion to force overtime at 21-21. Both team traded a pair of touchdowns in overtime, and the Rams' stuffed two 2-point conversion attempts after the first was flagged for pass interference. Moments after Chris Nwoke blasted in for a 4-yard touchdown on the game’s final drive, the Green team stuck with what was working. M.J. McPeek fed Nwoke again, this time around the right end for the game-winning two-point conversion, giving Green an exciting 15-14 win over its gold counterparts at Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium.

Safety Ivory Herd patiently watched Mike Orakpo jar the ball from Scott Carter’s hands in the left flat near the sideline, then swooped in and snagged the ball out of mid-air and returned it 67 yards for a touchdown. The play inspired the CSU defense to a 44-28 victory over the offense at Saturday’s practice, the first of three major spring scrimmages, at Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium.

Tim Miles and the CSU men’s basketball team will have a bonus game Tuesday when they host Fairfield in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament, the NIT selection committee announced Sunday night. The game tips off at 7 p.m. MDT and will be televised on ESPN3.
