Subject: Fum's Song!
Posted by: matth on Mon Jun 16 2008 1:21:51 AM
Message:

As a CSU graduate (and very loyal fan) I've noticed a disturbing trend
of losing for the last 2 years around here.

These last 2 years really cost Sonny his job, and attendance has been
down at games.

I don't know about you, but I believe in luck. And I think it was
extremely bad karma when the athletic administration removed Fum's
song from the jumbotron at home games. Fum's number is retired, he
lead the team to its first Bowl appearance, he was the AD for 10
years, and his darn name is on our athletic center!

We are doing his memory wrong by not singing his song properly, and we
are fast losing one of the best (and funniest) traditions at Colorado
State University.

Just saying, the last time we were in a bowl game just happened to be
the last year that Fum's Song was being sung by thousands of students
at every home game.

I happen to think that this school, like all universities, needs to
hold on to its tradition. And I have not seen any tradition at CSU
catch on with our students the way Fum's Song did.

I miss Fum's Song, and I don't think we'll be winning many games
around here until we bring it back. I recommend writing the athletic
department (as many times as possible) and demanding that Fum's Song
be restored to its proper glory on the jumbotron at every single home
game.

I'll sing you a song of college days, and tell you where to go/Aggies
where your knowledge is and Boulder to spend your dough/CC for the
sissy boys, and Utah for your times/DU for your ministers, and
drunkards School of Mines/Don't send my boy to Wyoming, a dying mother
said/Don't send him to old Brigham Young, I'd rather see him dead/But
send to the old Aggies, we're better than Cornell/BEFORE I'D SEE HIM
IN BOULDER, I'D SEE MY SON IN HELL!

(Lyrics by Thurman "Fum" McGraw, CSU's first All-American football player)
