RamNation Forums2005 Awards and Rankings: Specialty Awards
Return to Ranking & Awards History Homepage
RamNation's regular posters are what make the site so great. Everybody has their own posting styles and quirks that contribute to the board in unique ways. The Specialty Awards is the segment where we honor those individuals who stand out in various categories. Now, onto the awards... THANK YOU AWARDSpecial thanks go out to the following people for their extraordinary efforts in various areas this year Horn Star--He has served as my backup since Day 1, and has done a tremendous job in performing homepage updates, message board monitoring, and overall site management in my absences. CSU RAMbunctious--For helping in various capacities through the year. Tweeter--Tweeter has continued to stay on top of the recruiting scene and keeps us Ram fans in the know of what's going on with prospective future Rams RamSack--Sack is taking over duties to monitor basketball recruiting. CSU Fizzer--Fizzer has provided many photos for the website over the past year. Q.Ram and CSURamFan--These guys once again ran our popular Pigskin Pick'Em contest. and Bowl contest. On to the Goal--With the help of his buddy, set up and organized our March Madness contest, which is always a great contest that fans enjoy each year. WyoRamFan--For providing invaluable weather reports throughout the year. JoeyBtherealAD--For putting together a great inaugural RamNation golf tournament Griff Kull--The Rams Bookstore owner, who ended his sponsorship at the end of 2004, but not before providing countless prizes for our contests, as well as overall financial help to keep the site running. SportsWar staff--For hosting the site the past five years and for building us one kick-butt new site this year! BEST NEW HANDLERather than re-vote on all the handles every year, we'll just pick our favorite new handle that has popped up over the last year. This year's winner is: Irritable Bowel SyndRAM--He doesn't post much-actually at all-but this has to be one of the funniest usernames the site has ever seen. Taking second is a brand-new poster who signed in recently under the name Lubick's Cube. WITNESS PROTECTION PROGRAM AWARDWe threw this impromptu award in here due to the crazy amount of posters who changed their usernames this year. We thought it would be fun to vote for the best and worst username changes of the year. Some of the more high-profile users who changed their handles this year included Go Duke (to Swoll Cracker), Shenky (to Inverted Ram), SFBayCAM (to Surfah Ram), AZ Ram (to Montana Ram), praisesonny (to Ramfucious), and Horn-E (to I'mYourHuckleberry). However, the best username change this year goes to AK RAM, changing to Peanuts the Bulldog. Upon learning earlier this year that CSU once had a bulldog named "Peanuts" as its mascot long ago, he swapped his dull geographical username for the unique one. His handle has educated thousands of Ram fans about the historical mascot. The worst username change of the year has to go to bunsbuggy for switching to Rebel Yell. He went from having a unique username in "buns" (which fit him well considering his propensity for posting pictures of half-naked women), to one that depicts him as having some sort of Billy Idol identity crisis. Bring back buns!!! STUDENT BODY RIGHT (BEST STUDENT POSTER AWARD)Student participation is always hard to come by. After all, students have more exciting things going on. But there is a good core group of participants that contribute significantly to the board. We apologize for any we have missed. It's hard to know for sure who are students and who are not. Here the top 10 list of our favorite students: 1. zjb58
GLASS HALF-EMPTY AWARD (MOST NEGATIVE)sanfranramfan--You know you're bad when a Buff fan makes this comment about you: "Sanfran does a better job beating up your program than I do". The new-and-improved Sanfran of 2004 went back to his old ways this year. You could see it coming. With CSU having its worst athletics year in more than a decade, you could see the wheels coming off for sanfranramfan. Of course, he had company this year, as 2004 was an easy year to grip. L.A. Rampage, Big Apple Ram, and even JoeyBtherealAD received a little consideration for the award. GLASS HALF-FULL AWARD (MOST POSITIVE)CSU Rambunctious--No explanation needed. 'Bunctious has won this award four out of five years. (And the year he didn't win it, in 2003, he was a close runner-up.) BUFF HATER AWARDPatentram--We've had some pretty Buff-hateful guys over the years…but patentram takes the cake, at least for 2004-05. He's a guy who actually has a lot to offer to football and basketball conversations, but he's often taken out of his element by any Buff fan who dares to disagree with him. He can't control his anger towards Buff fans, and in fact, has had to be censored on more than one occasion by the board host. If you look closely, you see that the majority of his posts are directed towards keeping the "Little Islanders" down. 'POKE HATER AWARDNYCram--Once again, NYCram, who posts probably 75 percent anti-Wyoming messages, wins this award. The Cowboys' rise in the Mountain West Conference could create more competition for NYCram over the next year, as more fans rekindle their dislike for rival Wyoming…but until then, NYCram holds onto the title. ROOKIE OF THE YEARRugbyChuck--There wasn't a single brand-new poster that came in and truly took the board by storm this year as there have been in years past, and certainly none like last year's shoo-in winner, bunsbuggy. But, Rugby Chuck left a lasting impression on RamNationers this year with his infrequent, yet incredibly humorous posts. Other posters have tried to duplicate his posting style, but been unable to do it justice. It seemingly can only be pulled off by the one-and-only Rugby Chuck, who penned the unforgettable "I got my balls snipped yesterday" post that created a sort of cult following among RamNation fans. COMEBACK POSTER OF THE YEARThree RAM Night--Clearly feeling slighted from his No. 43 ranking last year, and before that managing just an Honorable Mention in 2003, Three RAM Night declared to the board that he was quitting after last year's rankings were announced. Nobody was sure if he was kidding or not, but judging by his performance this year, we think he truly was torqued off after last year's "snub" because he came back with a vengeance in 2004-05. He posted much more frequently, posted with humor and also contributed valuable opinions. His New York-style wit and dry humor had this voter cracking up for much of the year. MOST HATED POSTER1. Husker Hater--He nearly lost his grip on the top-hated poster award this year due to lack of appearances over the past couple of months. But nothing can take away from his incessant digs at CSU fans during season. 2. JC in the Rock--JC is single-handedly trying to bring the CSU-Wyoming rivalry back to the heatedness of the past. His smack talk is sharp and his opinions aren't well taken by the natives on the board. 3. Sportsfan101--He actually has some good things to say on occasion, but more often than not, just ticks off Ram fans. 4. le alpe d huez--This Aztec/Buff fan has a lot of good posting qualities, but most Ram fans just can't get past his daily snide, anti-Ram posts. 5. L.A. Rampage--This is the first time a Ram fan has made the finalist list. His negativity and annoying "Bumpable Board" campaign wore fans thin, and fans clearly turned on him this year. He's still a solid poster, and besides, it's not a popularity contest here anyways. BEST NON-RAM POSTER1. DubyaWhyOh--Dubya is an interesting poster. He qualifies as one of the most hated posters on the board, but is also one of the better posters on the board. Why? Because he keeps sports lighthearted as they should be, engages in a little good-natured smack talk, and can also talk sports. While he may rub some Ram fans the wrong way, he's OK in our book. 2. Buffsin2005--Buffsin2005 has been a staple in this category. In fact, he's finished either first or second all five years that we've done the official awards. He's a level-headed, fact-spewing, opinionated poster who can use common courtesy when conversing amongst rival fans. 3. le alpe de huez--Alpo, like Dubya, is a strange breed…widely unliked by Ram fans, but often good-natured enough to keep in the good graces of the board host. He is often funny, with side-splitting photos, and friendly jabs at CSU fans. 4. InTheBuff--He's a diehard Buff fan, and clearly doesn't like the Rams, but he's intelligent and generally courteous on the message board. He's also a frequenter of the general discussion board, and is a thoughtful, well-spoken poster. 5. AvBuff--AvBuff actually was ticketed near the top of this list, but a severe meltdown in the week leading up to the awards hurt him dearly. Save for about two days this year when he's seemingly gone psychotic, AvBuff has been a solid contributor to the board and is able to carry on good football-related topics with Ram fans. RAH RAH AWARDDenver Dave--Dave was a regular promoter of the Ram Club this year, and he put more than just words behind his efforts. He single-handedly helped sign up five new Ram Club members this year thanks to his sponsorships and other incentives to get people to sign up. It's not easy-particularly for young alumni-to depart with their money for something like the Ram Club, but his $25 sponsorships to help make it cheaper for people to join, as well as offers to give away Sonny Lubick bobblehead dolls, Fum McGraw trading cards, and football tickets helped lure in prospects that otherwise might not have donated money towards the Ram Club. EWE AWARD (BEST FEMALE POSTER)Colo Husker Chick--Once again, female participation on the board this year was meager. I wonder if it has anything to do with the countless photos of half-naked women (or all naked in the case of CSU Husker) that people have been posting? There's something about Colo Husker Chick that is appealing, and it's her ability to smack down Buff fans with football trash talk. She's a Husker fan first and foremost, so that explains her double hatred for CU, but she usually keeps it light-hearted and in good fun. She is also knowledgeable about the sport, and is fun to talk to on the board. TOP GENERAL BOARD CONTRIBUTORThere were many candidates for this award, and no matter who we pick, it's going to be unpopular, because in most cases, there's no middle ground on the GDB. You either agree or disagree with specific posters. Here is our top-five list: 1. Ramfucious
FUNNIEST POSTERBunsbuggy/Rebel Yell--There were a few posters who gave buns/Rebel a run for his money, but when it came down to it, nobody could unseat the incumbent "funniest poster" for his day-in-day-out hilarity. In his year and a half or so of posting, we estimate that only about 2 percent of his posts over that span have been of the serious nature. The rest are pure comedy. He's still the best on the board when it comes to linking funny photos, and his one-liners are hilarious. He's danced at the line of decency on many occasions, but has done a good job this year of staying within the terms of service. There are many others we regularly find ourselves laughing at, who were contenders for this award, including JoninAZ, Stalwart Ram, Dall Ram, Big Apple Ram, camdog, I'm Your Huckleberry, Swoll Cracker, M.C. Rammer, Rugby Chuck, TD Elvis, NYCram, and Dubya Why Oh. POST OF THE YEARThe Post of the Year is always a fun one for the judges to debate on. When you think of how many posts take place over the course of a year, it certainly is tough to narrow down a list of the best five or so. There's no exact science to this award…we simply collect all the top posts we come across during the year, put them into the archives and then pare them down to a select few. We started with around 15, and tried to get it down to five…but had to settle on six, because we liked them all so much and didn't want to leave any of them out. Aside from these finalists, we also considered posts from the likes of RAM SMITH, BVP for Heisman 03, I'm Your Huckleberry, and many others. To view our winners for 2004-05, click the following links, counting backwards from No. 6 to No. 1 (enjoy!): Sixth-place post of the year
