RamNation Forums2002 Awards and Rankings: Top 65 Rankings
Return to Ranking & Awards History Homepage
And now...it's time to reveal who the Top 25 RamNation.com posters are for the past year. The criteria is simple: We vote for the RamNation posters who have traditionally posted the most intriguing posts…the people who have regularly made us laugh…the people who have demonstrated the best knowledge and most insightful information…and the people who have been most valuable to creating worthy discussions on the board. And, of course, we give slight preferential treatment to the posters who make their presence known throughout the entire year. So, here we go…counting backwards from No. 25 to No. 1. (FYI-following the Top 25 poll is an "Others Receiving Votes" column consisting of the next-best 40 posters outside of the prestigious Top 25.) No. 25 CSU Rambunctious-One of the charter members of Ram message board lore, CSU Rambunctious has finally cracked the charts. His handle has been around since the days of the old CSU Ramblings board more than four years ago. He is about as off-the-wall as it gets. And sometimes, he's so off-the-wall that you can't understand him. Half of his posts leave the reader wondering something to the effect of, "What in God's name is this guy talking about?" However, in ALL of his posts, you just get a sense of the tremendous enthusiasm that he has for not only CSU athletics, but life in general. As the reigning winner of the "Glass Half Full" award, he's known as being the eternal optimist, which can be pleasantly contagious for the rest of the board. And, once you get past the fluff of his posts, he generally has some good things to say. He loves the recruiting arena, commonly discusses administrative issues, and talks about each and every sport--whether it be men's or women's. He's an avid women's sports fan, but admits that nothing tops football and men's basketball. Congratulations 'Bunctious on your first-ever Top 25 ranking. No. 24 Ram_Buck-This is quite a plummet for a poster who took No. 7 a year ago. Ram_Buck, the poster whose name is derived from his passion for both CSU and The Ohio State University, checks in at No. 25. He has been a passionate poster throughout the year, talking all sports, but specializing in basketball. In fact, some consider him the top women's basketball experts on the board and one of the best supporters of women's sports that the university has. However, earlier this year, Ram_Buck melted down when several people challenged his views on the hiring process surrounding the womens' basketball coaching vacancy. Ram_Buck was so peeved that he threatened to leave the board forever. Ram_Buck had often talked about his decision to leave an Ohio State message board for good, years ago. And finally it had happened with this site too. For that, RamNation.com voters were disappointed. But we could not overlook the value that Ram_Buck has brought to the board throughout the year. And besides, after a one-month disappearance, Ram_Buck has returned. All is well that ends well. No. 23 Buffsin2002-We just couldn't deny this any longer. Buffsin2002 has truly established himself as one of the most valuable posters on the board. Last year, he rang in at No. 65. However, after another exemplary year of class, humbleness, and sportsmanship, we felt it was time to give Bi02 the respect he deserves. And, we're not just voting him in because he's a Buff fan who speaks fondly of the Rams. Buffsin2002 actually can initiate some of the best football dialogue of anyone on the board. Sure, he supports the Buffs, but he also is about as knowledgeable as any of us Ram fans on our own team. He has a sense of Ram history, having grown up in Fort Collins, and knows a fair amount of current Ram information. Plus, his overall knowledge of college football in general is valuable for promoting good conversation on the message board. Buffsin2002 won the 2002 "Best Non-Ram Poster" award, and has also rightfully earned a spot in our Top 25. No. 22 Trophy Ram-When we think of Trophy, we think of an old-school type guy, who doesn't like to put up with a lot of crap. He was a pioneer in the realm of scolding fellow Ram fans if he felt they weren't acting rationally, or showing enough class. Trophy has solid opinions and discusses a wide variety of topics. But most of all, he just wants a good, clean discussion. His appearances have been down a little bit during the offseason, but he comes on strong when sports activities are in full swing. His specialty is football, but can also discuss hoops. His tenure and his steady performance are what keep him in the Top 25. No. 21 Epoxy Resin Ram-As the winner of the 2002 "Best Student Award", Epoxy Resin Ram certainly was a legitimate Top-25 performer as well. He recently changed his name from 3rd Lt. Ram USAF because he is no longer a 3rd Lt. But regardless of his handle, the recent graduate provides a unique perspective on what the younger population thinks about certain events. Epoxy is the founder of the Rampage club for student fans who want to assist in the betterment of athletics. He has used the message board to spread the word on various key issues, meetings, and events, as well as to report on the successes of that organization. Because of his affiliation with the Rampage organization, Epoxy can often be seen on the board discussing administrative issues, and discussions regarding the athletic director. For a young guy, Epoxy sure has his head screwed on straight. No. 20 RamForceOne-RamForce makes his first appearance in the poll by virtue of his consistent, quality conversations and contributions to the board. He can rationally discuss topics, and commonly discusses one of our favorite subjects--the athletes themselves. RamForce often discusses the status of current athletes, whereabouts of past athletes, etc. He's been known to dig up a link to a story on past Ram greats, and somehow discovered that former basketball player Lynn Tryon is now playing in the Arena Football League. What's most impressive of RamForce is his steady demeanor. He's an even-keel guy who never gets too excited or too down. No. 19 tweeter-Tweeter is a bit of a mystery. He showed up one day with an abundance of recruiting knowledge, and instantly became a credible source for the message board on the subject. He somehow always finds links to obscure newspapers with info on high school players who listed CSU on their wish list of schools. Tweeter seems to be the reincarnate of "carnero", who loves to talk recruiting, but usually stays relatively hidden from view unless a subject strikes his fancy. Carnero used to post quite a bit with his recruiting info, but has since gotten very quiet, while tweeter has become more prominent. Hmmm, maybe we're on to something here? (Finkle is Einhorn, Einhorn is Finkle!) Of course, tweeter talks more than just recruiting and always appears to be one of the few posters who are "in the know". Tweeter doesn't post as often as many of the Top 25 residents, but the value he brings when he does post is important. No. 18 OC Ram-OC Ram, which stands for "Orange County Ram", gives readers a perspective that not too many of us have--one from a former player's point of view. OC Ram is a former Ram football player, and thus is qualified to argue and discuss various issues. He's a poster who focuses on individual players, line ups, Xs and Os, coaching details, etc. When so many people want to discuss topics such as stadium expansion, rankings, and other topics, OC Ram is always starved for discussing on-the-field "strategery". Not to mention, his roots in southern California enable him to view the athletic programs from afar and give an out-of-stater's perspective. No. 17 Horn Star-The poster formerly known as "Rammies" succumbed to the pressure of a campaign initiated by L.A. Rampage, who said that the use of the word "Rammies" was just too lame. Horn Star agreed and inherited the new handle after an impromptu "new name" contest was conducted. He is one of the classiest posters this site has, always engaging in heated conversations, yet never overstepping his bounds--not even to baiting CU fans. Horn Star has a vast knowledge of college football in general, is always aware of the current events surrounding college football. He's been known to post pertinent links, and spark good discussions with his opinions. In addition, he's also one of those types of guys who, if one person's link to a URL didn't work, will figure out what the problem is and post a new link for them. We at RamNation.com appreciate kindness. No. 16 Da'Rams!!- Da'Rams!! had somewhat of a "down" year, at least of late. A year ago, he was considered one of the most active posters in RamNation. He was the type of poster to post on a daily basis--even during the offseason. This year, during the peak season, he's still been a maniac like usual, posting many times a day. But lately, for whatever reason, we haven't seen the same type of participation this year. Maybe he's resting up for the football season, which starts a little earlier than usual. Regardless, when he does speak, he's entertaining and adds to the conversation. He's a fan who rarely misses being at an event in person, so he always provides that valuable perspective. He's opinionated and even funny, but never takes things too seriously, which is refreshing. No. 15 RamSquad-RamSquad has proven to be one of the most active posters we've had over the past two years. By quantity alone, he deserves recognition. He seems to be involved on every conversation, day after day. Does this guy have a job? Granted, a lot of his posts are one-liners, but his abundance of posts shows the enthusiasm and participation that we at RamNation love to see. He is an especially solid contributor during football season. No. 14 Q.Ram-Q.Ram, our resident mathematician, has evolved over the past year. We're starting to see more posts from him about the state of the telecommunications industry than the state of our offensive line. We see more posts from him about stocks and bonds than we do about short drops and long bombs. But what do you expect from one of the true braniacs of this site? Without him, we wouldn't have our annual Pigskin Pick'em contest. Don't get us wrong though, this is not a token vote--Q.Ram is a deserved Top 25 poster who loves to talk team strategy, statistics, and CSU history. No. 13 RamSlam-Obviously feeling snubbed by not even cracking the Top 65 list last year, RamSlam has made sure that his presence was known this year. His quickly earned himself recognition through his humor and quick-hit posts. He is king of the one-liners, whether it be a humorous response to a Ram fan, or a quick retort to a "Utard" fan as he calls them. It's not all fun and games though with RamSlam, as he also can discuss the serious topics. He won't be the type that writes paragraph after paragraph, but he doesn't shy away from stating his opinion--whether it be popular or unpopular--and states it often. He's an extremely active poster that you can count on to keep the board going during "slow days". No. 12 M.C. Rammer-M.C. Rammer. As RamSlam once said, "Please Rammer, Don't Hurt 'Em." Rammer has transformed himself into a solid player on this board. The first giant step was changing his handle to the drab "MB" to M.C. Rammer--a handle that earned him the "Best Handle Award" for 2002. With his new identity seemed to sprout even better takes than before. Rammer didn't even crack the Top 65 last year, but has since become incredibly more active. Rammer has the mind of a marketing genius, and can often be seen engaging in conversations regarding what the athletic department can do to draw more fans, increase donation levels, and make work processes more efficient. He also loves to talk football especially, and also can be one of the funniest posters of the entire board. No. 11 RAM-I-AM-In one of the more shocking developments of the year, defending champ RAM-I-AM fell into a long descent in the rankings department. However, when analyzed, it shouldn't be as surprising as it seems. The day that RAM-I-AM accepted a new job offer, as he announced last year, he lost the privilege of spending his days on the Internet, thus robbing RamNation readers of his incredible wit and analyses. He's averaged just six posts per month over the last three months. However, his significant track record, and his solid showings during those few times he does post are enough to keep him at respectability. Plus, we sense that he'll find a way to post more frequently once the excitement of the football season hits his bloodstream. RAM-I-AM is undoubtedly one of the most talented, creative, intelligent posters on this board. We can only hope he quits or gets fired from his job sometime soon. We miss him. No. 10 RambleOn-There's guys who know recruiting, and then there is RambleOn, who makes it his hobby to know the ins and outs of recruiting. RamNation.com staff noticed his insight and talent earlier this year, and since made RambleOn a permanent fixture to the site, as he now coordinates and compiles all of the recruiting information for our Recruiting page. When people need a recruiting question answered, they address their questions to RambleOn. He finished ranked No. 20 last year, but found his niche during the past year, and has established himself as one of the most valuable posters this site has. No. 9 WashParkRam-As a long-time poster in RamNation, WashParkRam is a staple on the board, seemingly always around regardless of the time of year. WPR finished No. 9 last year, and still was very solid this year, although a couple of brief hiatuses from the board hurt him a tad. WPR is always in the running for Anti-Buff award, and his hatred for "ucb" is clearly evident in 90 percent of his posts. Obviously, his mother didn't teach him the old rule that "if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say it at all", because WPR takes pleasure in razzing Buff fans all day long. All Buff bashing aside, WPR is one of the most in-tune fans we have on the board. No. 8 Doc-Doc, who finished in 16th a year ago improved this year through his persistent and quality posting. Last year he was "docked" (no pun intended) because of a period of inactivity. He has seemed to avoid those long stretches this year, despite being in a profession that requires him to be on call and away from a computer for a vast majority of the day. Maybe Doc uses those long work hours to store in his brain CSU-related gems to post later. Doc is an excellent contributor to football conversations, but is even better when basketball season rolls around, which is important to the traffic flow on the board because basketball fans/conversationalists are harder to come by around here. Being a local resident, Doc has his finger on the pulse of Fort Collins and the athletic department in general, which is always a value to the board. No. 7 CSURamFan-We appreciate CSURamFan because he's not the type of guy that is easily persuaded. On a site like this, it's easy to get caught up in optimism and unrealistic expectations. CSURamFan always seems to stay grounded and challenges popular opinion. He's an intelligent poster who requires facts before he will give his stamp of approval on an opinion. He's also the 2002 winner of the Lady Bing Award for his exemplary sportsmanship. He has been known to get into heated debates with various foes, but he rarely crosses the line of good taste. And, if he feels one of his brethren Ram fans is out of line, he doesn't hesitate to scold them. CSURamFan is one of the bigger fans we have on this board and overall, we value his opinions. No. 6 RamMan-RamMan, one of the most long-standing members of the Ram message board community, continues to remain as one of the top posters despite his incredible school and work schedule over the past year. He is an extremely bright poster that brings quality opinions, ideas, and topics to the board for discussion. As was noted in last year's rankings, in which he placed No. 4, RamMan was the brainchild behind the RamStorming Board, which was set up as a forum solely for ideas that the athletic department can read and use as it wishes. RamMan can discuss a variety of topics. But beware: If you get him going, be prepared to get your reading spectacles out, because you'll be in for a novel. RamMan has been known to go on and on and on in some of his posts. But it goes to show you the passion and intelligence that he has. No. 5 RAM-BIL-ON-Weighing in at No. 42 last year, we always had our eye on RAM-BIL-ON as a sleeping giant. He was a very opinionated guy who was very good at arguing his points. However, he didn't always choose to do so. This year, he has become much more outspoken, and as a result has developed into one of the best posters on the board. He's also got an edge to him to where if someone disagrees with him, he doesn't like it. While he may welcome opposing opinions, he doesn't hesitate to rip into them and explain their flaws. He's almost the RamNation equivalent to AM 950 The Fan's Sandy Clough. We at RamNation.com love these types of posters because they encourage long threads and quality discussions. No. 4 Brother of Future-Brother of Future's username comes from the fact that he is the older brother of sophomore quarterback Justin Holland. BOF, who was a star in his own right at Bear Creek High School, rose to prominence in RamNation this year, with his quality takes, in-depth knowlege, and controversial view points. Despite the fact that most of the board knew who he was, he didn't shy away from the hard topics, like "who should start this season, Bradlee Van Pelt, or your brother?". But his willingness to answer such questions is what has made BOF so well respected. When you see his handle on the board, you often find yourself migrating to his posts first. BOF joined the RamNation.com scene only a couple months prior to last year's Awards and Rankings piece. Yet, he made such a solid early impression that he was placed in the Top 25 (No. 24). With a full year under his belt, his value has skyrocketed, and thus into the Top 10. We just hope that he, and his brother, continue to work hard and get to the No. 1 spot one of these days. No. 3 JoninLA-Jon, who finished last year outside of the top 40, mostly because of his relative newness to the site, has steadily climbed the ladder as one of the best, and most read posters on the board. Jon has a gift of writing, and can state his opinion with the best of them. He mixes serious with humor...and as much as he enjoys talking sports, his best attribute might be provoke thought on off-topic subjects. One only has to look at Jon's recent award of "Post of the Year", which he earned for a post-September 11 award that was so incredibly well written and profound that we thought it was worthy to be put up on the RamNation.com frontpage where it could not get buried amongst the other seemingly meaningless words on the message board. To top it off, Jon works for a news service company, and always seems to have links to Ram-relevant stories. No. 2 Dall Ram-There's funny. Then there's Dall Ram, who is head-and-shoulders funny above the rest of the board. Call him the king of sarcasm. On a message board, it's sometimes hard to discern when someone is being serious, sarcastic, funny, or whatever. But Dall Ram has mastered the art. When he speaks, people laugh. But, you can't be this witty without being smart, and Dall Ram demonstrates his smarts as well. Though he doesn't delve into too many serious topics, he can and does refrain from the jokes when he deems necessary. And he can hold his own in discussions. But, make no mistake, humor is his gift. We at RamNation particularly like when Dall finds his obscure photos (Rams running counter-treys) and links to strange, but pertinent websites (such as the website about Buffaloes plunging off a cliff) and then adds his own personal captions to them, which are priceless. In a contest that is largely weighted towards the more serious-type posters, it speaks volumes that Dall Ram finished at No. 2. His humorous posts are THAT good. No. 1 Stalwart Ram-Stalwart Ram is finally crowned No. 1 after two years of Top-5 finishes. Last year, he finished runner-up, second to only the annual powerhouse RAM-I-AM. However, with RAM-I-AM's decrease in posts this year, Stalwart saw the perfect opportunity to take the top spot and seized it. Annually one of the top Anti-Buff posters, you can always count on Stalwart to thwart Buffs, with a combination of both his smarts and humor. He was the creator of the commonly used term "ucb" that Buff fans have come to hate. Despite being one of the most comedic posters on the board Stalwart can debate with any poster on any topic. He's also what we like to call a "Re:" poster, as the majority of his posts are responses to others. He just can't seem to let any post without weighing in with his own viewpoint. His overall creativity, intelligence, and daily contributions are what put Stalwart in the No. 1 position. He has established himself as one of, if not the best, poster this website has ever seen. Congratulations Stalwart. Others receiving votes (40 posters, ranked in order of most votes)
To everyone listed…congratulations. It's quite a feat to be recognized considering the large number of posters we have. For those of you who didn't make it…it's most likely an oversight on my part…or due to the fact that I didn't see enough posts from you to develop an opinion. Remember…there's always next year to surge into the limelight. The real shame is to see such great performances one year, but a no-show in the next. There were several people who made a solid impression last year (i.e., "babybull"), but failed to show up enough this year, and fell through the cracks. So don't let that happen to you! Regardless of whether you were mentioned or not, thanks to everyone for being a part of RamNation.com... Even those of you who only read the board and never register. We are grateful to have you here. Stay with us as we get bigger and better!
