Updates
4/24/05--A fundraiser poker tournament put on by RamNationers Saturday raised
$482 for Trae's family. Thanks to everyone who organized the event, to those of
you who participated, and to Edward's Pipe and Tobacco for hosting the event.
4/3/05--A memorial service for Trae was held
Friday at Wesleyan Church, and it was astounding. Hundreds of people packed the
sanctuary, where flowers, Trae’s picture, and his favorite CSU hat were
displayed. Attendees were greeted in the foyer by a nice display of photos
illustrating Trae’s life, from birth, childhood, the teen years, college, his
stint in body building, marriage, and then becoming a dad.
Before, during, and after the service, people
spoke passionately in describing Trae’s life, faith, and love of his family and
friends. Among the words shared was a poem written by Trae and his
daughter. Later, a slide show completed the memorial where not a dry eye was to
be found. Attendees gathered for lunch afterwards, offering people more time to
reminisce and give condolences to the family. It was a great way to honor a
great man. Please consider lending a hand by helping Trae's wife and children
left behind by making a donation. See the box above for ways you can help.
3/28/05--Sadly, Trae lost his battle with cancer
today at 1 AM MST. His battle lasted a short 5 1/2 weeks and he fought a good
fight. His family needs your support now more than ever.
Background
Trae Pepper, a RamNation visitor and long-time CSU Ram fan, was diagnosed with liver cancer back in mid-February at the age of 36. This news came suddenly and unexpectedly, and shocked everyone who knew and loved him. The very aggressive cancer started in the Biliarytree portion of Trae's liver and then spread to encompass his entire liver. Just five and a half weeks after the initial diagnosis, Trae lost his battle with cancer. His family can use your thoughts and prayers in this difficult time.
Trae leaves behind his wife Lisa, daughter Hailey (8), and son Taren (5). A 1990 CSU graduate, Trae lived in Greeley and owned a small business. He was a Ram Club member and football season ticket holder for almost 10 years. Trae had a deep faith in God, family, and country.
Trae is in heaven now, but please join us in sending his family your sympathies, condolences, and well wishes by posting them below. (You do not need to be a registered RamNation user to post a message, and can use your real name if you wish.)

Center, CO USA - Friday, April 01, 2005 at 15:29:11 (EST)I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I now live in Kansas City, but I grew up in Greeley and am sad to see somebody from my hometown pass away from cancer.
I found this site from a link on NetBuffs and it is times like these when we are talking about life and death that makes sports see trivial. Being a CU grad, I love it when we beat CSU, but after reading Trey's story, it makes the CU CSU games so unimportant. I mean whoever wins or loses, we will wake up the next day and have our lives to live with those we love and those who love us.
Again, I am very sorry for you loss and God bless.

Kansas City, Mo USA - Friday, April 01, 2005 at 14:21:37 (EST)Trae, Well here it is , the morning before your funeral and I can't sleep. I have been wanting to say something on here for a week but everytime I read all the comments I get to emotional to write. Before you came along in our lives I had always wondered what you were "really" going to be like. In fact I warned Ann that finding you could have a disappointing conclusion. I WAS WRONG< and i'm never wrong..haha... I am so glad that we had an opportunity to get to know you and your family. I am so incredibly saddened by the fact that we will never get to go camping or atv riding again. I'm hoping your family will do us the honor of going again with us as we will celebrate you during our adventure.
I see by the many comments here that all the good I saw in you many others did too. We will all miss your fun outgoing personality, especially the smile that always said "HI!". I have learned 1 thing from all the other comments and that is that Today is suppose to be a day of celebration for now you are with your savior(no doubt telling him that CSU will be good this year and possibly trying to pull a few strings!) In fact, I've decided that this is not the day to wear black. IT'S A GREEN DAY :) TO YOU I WISH ETERNAL HAPPINESS and to your family Lisa, Teron, Halley all of our love and our NEVER ending support. WE LOVE YOU! Chris, Melinda, Cierra

Trae was one of the best childhood, high school and college freinds anyone could ask for and I feel blessed to have had the priviledge. I'm certain that Trae was also the best husband and father he could be. Please be comforted that Trae now rests in the arms of the Lord. Also know that your faith in God, friends and family will help you get through this difficult time.
God bless and keep you, my friend.

Evans, CO USA - Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 14:47:31 (EST)Lisa, Hailey and Teran,
My sincerest sympathy to all of you. We all had such hope for Trae, mostly because of his attitude and will to endure!I understand that God had different plans, but regret that all of you had to to through so much. We have held all of you in our prayers and thoughts and will continue to do so! Lisa, you don't need any reminders of how special Trae is, but he always was true to himself and a true friend to us all. In looking back, growing up with Trae was a true gift and privelege! He was so fun and easy going, willing to take anything on. Even though we hadn't stayed in touch,
his friendship was enduring.
"Rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn". Romans 12: 15
We will be doing both for sometime! Rejoicing in the end of his pain and his seat in heaven, mourning in the loss of our Earthly friend, your husband and your children's father.
May God Bless And Comfort You Always! Love, Julie

moffat, CO. USA - Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 14:42:10 (EST)To all of Trae's beloved family:
Stew and I wouild like to send our condolences to you in the loss of Trae. Stew will cherish the momories he had with Trae as a member of his basketball team at Center, riding in the potatoe truck with him and most of all, the time shared a few months ago when Trae came to Denver and Stew and Trae had lunch together.
They had a long talk about life and death. As most of you know, Stew was privileged to see "the other side" when he suffered his massive abdominal aneurism (bursted). Trae and Stew talked in length about that (almost a time of preparation).
Sometimes when Stew is down, I ask him, "What is your problem?" He always says, "I want you to know that I love you and all my family very much, but in many ways I wish I could have 'gone on'." There are no words to describe what it was like to be in the presence of Jesus. Death is a 'transition' and Jesus said to Trae, "Come with me, Trae, your earthly mission is completed and this day thou shall be with me in paradise. You are healed." We shall meet again!!
Our Love,
Stew and Bev Stewart

Colorado Springs, CO USA - Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at 13:18:04 (EST)Lisa & Family. Brenda and I want to extend our deepest condolances to you and your family. We appreciate and cheerish the few times that our families got to spend together. I was always amazed at Trae's love for life and his passion and drive. In the business that we are in, it took a tremendous amount of courage for Trae to start out on his own and start a successful business. I enjoyed the opportunities that Dean Frye gave me to meet Trae and to bring us together to share thoughts and ideas about our business. Our God has better plans for Trae in Heaven and I am sure that Trae will strive to make the grass a little greener for us when we will ultimately meet our Lord. Please take care Lisa and let us know if there is anything that we can do to add comfort to you and your family.

I could not imagine the emotions and feeling that the family has right now, all I can do is let you know that I empathize with your situation. I hope my small donation can help soften the blow of this tragedy. In the next few weeks, I will try and work things out to give another (larger) donation. You always included me in the things we were doing and shared your love, toys, bikes, and any thing that you had to make me feel comfortable and loved. Your love and generousity is reflected in the love that is shown on this web page. You have been such a wonderful instrument in inspiring love and faith in so many.
You will always hold place in my heart.
Love you
Sheldon

Arvada, CO USA - Sunday, March 27, 2005 at 02:25:52 (EST)Trae and family,I know how strong Trae has always been. He has more to offer his family than a strong body though. He has one of the strongest spirits I have ever had the pleasure to be around. His spirit will be a guide for his family no matter what the future may hold. That spirit will always be there to guide his children through their toughest times and he will be there in their happiest times also. God is able to use him as a tool to keep his family strong. We love Trae and all who are going through this with him. We are truly blessed to be a part of this family. We are praying for you all.

Keep your head up, buddy - I like to think that things always work out in the end. Good luck to you and your family, and Godspeed.

Rock Springs, WY USA - Saturday, March 26, 2005 at 14:36:59 (EST)Dear Trae,
You strike me as one of the guys who has passion deep in his heart and kindness deep in his soul. I wish you and your family all of God's Love and pray that God gives you the mission to spread extra goodness into people's lives. God bless you and be with you.
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.

Boston, Ma USA - Saturday, March 26, 2005 at 12:20:06 (EST)Trae,
I was thinking about you this morning and just wanted you to know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I wanted you to know how important it is to me that you always come and find me when you are home just to say hi. I think we all get so busy with the "things" we have to do every day that we forget to do what is important - like stop for 5 minuntes and say hi to an old friend. So....hi old friend!!! I will continue to keep you in my prayers. We don't always know what God has in store for us ( in fact I'm constantly wondering why God has put me in the places and situations I'm in). I do know that there is a reason for everything and all is graciously and lovingly guided by his powerful hand. God does have a plan for you Trae - you couldn't be in better hands.

I start out apologizing for not being “here” for you sooner. I just very recently heard the news. It blew me away. I’ve been thinking about this letter for a couple of days now, trying to shorten it up, but I’m going to send it just the way it is. Hope you don’t mind.
I find myself, from time to time, wondering about old friends, and more often than not, my old friends from grade school and my younger days. We’ve probably all heard the old saying that childhood friends are friends forever, and as time has marched on and the wisdom and knowledge gained through growing up and growing older, through experiencing life’s joys and trials, I truly do believe that.
I feel very thankful for all of my childhood memories, and I rarely think back to that time of my life when I don’t think about you, Todd, Lee, Donnie, and all the rest of us guys out playing football every day during recess, giggling in class, doing the swimming lesson thing, and just being boys in general. That was a great time in our lives. I believe our experiences at that age impress upon us our future values and morals and of course, our core beliefs that we carry on throughout the rest of our lives.
We were not a “gang” by any of the modern definitions, (maybe that has something to do with keeping our pants pulled up instead of hanging down to the crotch??) but you know what? We were a good group of guys all right! And I’m darned proud to have been a part of that, and I carry that little piece of me every step of the way. We watched out for each other in little ways. We had each other’s backs, so to speak.
I haven’t had the pleasure of getting to “run into you” like I do some of the other guys and gals that still live around the valley here, but the times I HAVE run into you (not nearly enough) I have been reminded of that time in my life that I truly cherish, as well as coming away from our brief “hello’s” with a good feeling and very happy to have seen you.
Life tends to happen and we all move on, taking the different paths that God lays out for each of us to follow, and we do that following those values, morals and virtues we all learned as young men. We tend to not stay in touch, well, we all know because there just doesn’t seem to be enough time to do all the little things that we may “want” or really, probably more importantly, “NEED” to do. But a nice thought or a memory here and there a long the way seems to fill in that gap, and get us by.
And then you hear of a buddy, a friend, a part of something, a memory, that you cherish, having his back against the wall…and all that changes. Fast.
And although time has gone by, and we’ve been traveling our different paths, I am still very proud to call you a friend. Some things do NOT change.
You are a great guy, and I have no doubt in my mind that you are a great husband and a great father. Your family is very lucky to have you in their lives, the support I am so sure you offer as a loving husband, and the strength, comforting, security and the love that you provide for those 2 kids. And do you know what? That is something that I think you deserve to “stick your chest out” about. Feel the pride that comes from that, because, THAT is what really matters, more than all the other trivial stuff.
You are in my constant thoughts, and a part of my prayers. I want you to know that I am with you, and will be there in only the time it takes to drive to your front door if you need anything at all!
You keep your chin up, and keep the strength that shines through with that optimism and those positive thoughts, even though I know that is hard at times. Draw strength from the positive thoughts and heartfelt prayers that are pouring in. Draw strength from your faith. Be proud of it! You are a good man. Anybody can be a man, but it takes a lot more to be a good man. You’ve been strong and constant in your life, and we all see that. Believe me. Now it’s our turn, all of us, to be strong and constant for you. We are here for you, and with you.
I will NOT stop praying intently and thinking positive. You don’t stop either!
I have your back, buddy. We ALL do. Keep the faith, keep your chin up and stay strong!
Your Friend,
Darren White

Monte Vista, CO USA - Friday, March 25, 2005 at 11:18:30 (EST)Hey, Trae!
I got this website link today, and Wow! What an awesome discovery to find that in the years since we all graduated from Center that he's brought you to Himself, too. So I'm really glad to find out that whatever God has in store for you in the coming days, weeks, months and years, that we'll get to see each other again in the Throne Room and we'll get to catch up while we're hanging out with Jesus, if we don't get to before then. Pretty cool to read through this site and read the memories from all the people we grew up with in Center. I haven't kept in touch very well with people from our classes either - I can think of better ways to get back in touch. So, now that you've got people getting back in touch, it's time to move on to the next thing. And I can see from the posts here that you have an amazing team working with you - Vikings, Rams, your family, your church family, and the Team Captain of the Universe - our Lord. I don't know the details of what He wants to do in your life or how He wants to accomplish them - only that I've learned that it's in the process that He does the work. And I'll close with this that He told me - he has a plan for your life, and he will move the universe to work it out. Romans 8:32 - "He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all - how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?" By HIS wounds you ARE healed. Isaiah 53:5b, 1 Pt 2:24. Rest in His healing hand, my brother in Christ. Your friend, Debbie

Houston, TX USA - Friday, March 25, 2005 at 01:13:19 (EST)Hey buddy! Where to begin? First off, I'm not sure who this site is benefiting more, you, or all of us who consider you a great friend! In reading all of the comments here it leads me to one thing, you've never ever lost who God intended you to be!!! I can't think of another person who has the gifts that you have. I've know you since before we were ever in school and the one thing that you have that no one else has is an incredible determination. I never told you this before but I always used to hate peewee wrestling because of you:) I didn't mind the wrestling but I always knew that because you and I were always the same scrawny little guys I would end up having to wrestle you and I knew you would never give up! When I learned of your illness my first thoughts were that you would never ever give up! We talked about this the other day but I still look back at our childhood together and remember all the good times we had together. I read the letter from Jay and I don't know if you remember on that trip how it rained on us that night and Brett woke up in the middle of the night to pull the canvas cover over us all and the rain water in it all dumped into his bag. Jay also forgot to mention the fake chopped of thumb that was in the extra burritos. If it wasn't for that thumb I think he might have ate all the burritos. Speaking of Jay, do you remember when you and he had to stay after football practice and run sprints for fighting with each other? That just shows the fight inside you(you weighed 145 lbs. and he weighed 210 lbs.) I think of all my memories of you one of the best was the day I found out you knew Christ!!! I want you to know that you are in my families prayers and I believe God is working with you, in you, and through you! You are an inspiration to us all and I love you my friend! Your friend, Todd

Remember the God we serve is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine (Eph. 3:20).
I read somewhere about "God room". It is the gap between what's possible and what God wants done that is impossible. When we reach the limits of possible, faith looks to God to do the impossible...and that's when miracles begin. Keep Believing!

We never know why things in our lives happen, and I have quit trying to figure it out. God knows why and that is all that counts. I lost my sister two months ago, and was "brought back to God" because of it. Perhaps your suffering is a way to bring others closer, and to make unbelievers believe. Our prayer are with you, and if it is God's plan for you to survive, then it will happen. If is is not, trust in the Lord that you have touched many hearts, including mine. Cheryl

Hi Trae! It's been a few weeks since I talked to you & it seems alot has happened. I can see by the many emails on this site that you have touched many lives in your lifetime; mine included. It seems that our childhood friends never leave our hearts & minds. You have always been near in my thoughts anytime I reminisce about the good old days at CHS! Our class shared alot of good times. My favorite memory is of your visit to me when Eddie & I were stationed in Germany. Talk about a great surprise - seeing a dear friend in such an unlikely place! You had that crazy long hair!! I remember when you wrecked your motorcycle back in Junior High. You, Todd & Tharin were some crazy dudes!! You guys where also the only reason I probably passed Mr. Yandell's classes!(yikes) Trae, I can not even fathom everything you must be going through, but I know you have the strength to overcome whatever you encounter. This is a huge obstacle, but I believe your faith will bring you through. I think about you & pray for you, Lisa & the kids every day. You know, they say that laughter is the best medicine, so spend every day you have laughing at the crazy things your kids do or any of the other funny things that happen every day; you never know, it might help! I'll leave you with this little something I received in an email today --- "God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way." Take care my friend - Tracie

Greeley, CO USA - Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at 23:44:14 (EST)Trae, I think the worst thing about growing up and getting on with our lives is losing touch with the ones we grew up with. Even though we haven't kept in touch over the years you have been in our thoughts. Over the last few weeks you have been there constantly. Martha and I have talked about you and your family every day, sharing stories mostly of the 'good old days'. I was thinking back over the things we did and couldn't help but smile at the memories....I hope they do the same for you......Do you remember that football camp in Kansas before your senior year......and stopping off on the way back at Brett's house and playing in the mud.....how many pounds of mud did you have on you that day?......or cleaning the potato cellar that summer which turned into racing wheel barrows....how often did we crash doing that?....I guess we were lucky we didn't get hurt.....and the summer before that when we mixed and poured all the concrete......it didn't make me smile then, but looking back on it for some reason did.......and that fishing trip when you, me, Mike, Todd, Kelby and Brett drove up the Rio Grande, parked and walked down the river but didn't catch any fish so we ran out of food about halfway through the trip......on the way back, Hennigh says to the other guys "hey lets just climb up here and Trae and Jay can go get their trucks and pick us up".......we thought we were getting the shaft on that deal until we got back around to the top of that hill and saw how far they had come.......I still think that those sandwiches from Browns in Southfork tasted better than any meal I have ever had....maybe not having eaten in two days had something to do with that......Well, Trae, those are just some of the things I have been thinking of over the last few days. I really regret not keeping in contact with you but I believe, and I hope you do as well, that a childhood friend is a lifelong friend........Jay

Al Udied AB, Qatar - Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at 03:29:03 (EST)Trae - Since we roomed together in college you were always a good friend to me. I have always appreciated your friendship. I have asked about you after I moved out of Colorado in 93 and when I moved back in 97. It saddens me to find out that you were in Greeley this whole time and we never bumped into eachother. My prayers are with you and your family and hope to get in touch with you to catch up. It would be nice to kick back and laugh about the old times.

I got word last night about your fight Trae, and you and your family are in my prayers. I'm not sure if you will remember me right away. You Warren and my ex- husband Brian were in a body building competition together. I will never forget the fun we had getting ready for it. Soon after, Lisa came along and brought love into your life. I made all the flowers for your wedding, and was there to witness those push ups. You were ready to give it all you had that day, and I know you will do the same now. I will pray for you and your family. Peace be with you.

Parkton, NC USA - Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at 09:07:24 (EST)I hope that you get well, you have to be strong and believe you will get through this. So many people care about you and are here for you, you are not alone in this battle, everyone is with you and so is the LORD. When you fall he will catch you and hold your hand and he will walk by your side day by day and never let go. Here is something I picked up from Psalm 103:1-6, Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul; and forget not all his benefits. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases; he redeems my life from the pit and crowns me with love and compassion. He satisfies my desires with good things, so that my youth is renewed like the eagle's. May God Bless you Trae.

Eden, NY USA - Sunday, March 13, 2005 at 11:45:32 (EST)Trae - We've been following your progress from Seattle and praying for you every day. I wanted you to know how much I admire the man you've become. I had the privelege of growing up with you and relish all those memories - hanging on tight behind you on the snowmobile or motorcycle, piling on a tube going way too fast down the hill, goofy pictures in front of the Christmas tree. When I read the other comments, it's so clear ... you've touched so many lives and you should know you'll always have a special spot in mine. Your Cousin, Denise.

They were the type of people that never gave up when the chips were down. You are now facing one of those battles, may you and your family draw on their strengths in this time of need.

Denver, CO USA - Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 18:01:29 (EST)Time for some HUMOR. Hey bud, I'm the guy on the board everybody hates. I'm like the suggestion box over there, and the locals especially, don't take kindly to it. Gotta tell ya, though, I can't get enough of their comments. I laugh all the time. Nothing like a good chuckle...don't forget those, through all of this.
That being said, I just read this long list of love I'm looking at. And it is something else. WOW. Clearly, you have touched the lives of many who care deeply for you. Amazing. I hope you're proud.
What I like most about Ram football is that we consistently over-achieve and play our hearts out (okay maybe not last year but still). Anyway, the rest of the nation can have the blue-chippers, the NFL dreams, the rankings, even...but, I will take human spirit, thank you. The will to win...the will to live. I know you've already got your helmet on, but don't mind if I join ya for a minute.
So, let's imagine, follow me here, that we are on a knee in that CSU locker room at half-time, down eleven (gonna have to go for two probably), and I just want you to think about what it would be like to look at the warriors next to you, their hands on your shoulders, eyes intent on the goal, and hearts bigger than life...and think about what that would feel like to really be there. What a cool thing that would be. And powerful. Well, we all look up, and there's Sonny, and he delivers the most moving speech of his life, right before your very eyes. What would that do to you?
It would be awesome. You'd want to win...badly.
Now I am forced to look at the long list of people in your corner, and it is bigger and better than any locker room could ever be. Sonny would be proud. If the Rams had that amount of spirit, we would never lose again. EVER. You have a team around you unlike any other. I know, because it just took me a morning to go through today's game program..."Team Trae" we will call them. That says a lot. Most men will never get close to what you have on your side, bud. Don't forget that.
You can do this, Trae. Beat it.
As for me, I'll meander back onto the Ramnation board shortly, to raise the ire of the natives, yet again, and take my daily beating. But, I go with the knowledge that I can laugh at it all, and still feel like we are all one big family who are really pulling hard for you right now...DAMN hard.
My very best wishes, Trae, to you and your loved ones.

Fort Collins, CO USA - Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 15:10:47 (EST)Dear Trae and Lisa-- You are in our thoughts every moment of the day. Each day as we go to our Lord we ask for his healing hands upon Trae. I remember this: ""Because Trae (he)loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges My Name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation." Psalm 91:14-16. My prayer for you today and always-- O Lord, in Trae's present need, help him to believe that You are aware of his trouble and will do what his best for him. Give him the strength to trust You and to put the present and future in Your merciful hands. In Your name we prayer. Amen. We love you!

Loveland, Co USA - Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 11:39:14 (EST)Trae..My friend in Christ..your challenge here on earth was brought to my attention by an associate of mine at work named Tony Collins. As a Christian we know that we have eternal life with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. But as a Husband to your wife and a Father to your children, you need "more" time on this earth to accomplish the goals that you have set for yourself and your family. It is with my utmost prayer and hope that you will be given the chance to achieve these goals. I have said a prayer for you tonight and will continue to pray for you and your family.

Thank you for the opportunity to get to know your family. I truly enjoyed having Hailey last year. A life can be measured in two ways; the first is by living a christ -centered life and the second is by how others view our contibutions to this world. I have seen your passion and dedication for your family .You have created amazing gifts for our world and for that I thank you.
