BuffRamMom holds on to win the championship
1/6/14--The bowl season ended with a game almost as exciting as the first. Auburn rolled to a 21-3 lead before Florida State clawed back to make it a game, and after a few lead changes in the final minutes, the Seminoles (-9.5) pulled out a 34-31 win with touchdown in the game's final seconds. While Auburn didn't win, the did cover the point spread, and it had major ramifications on the RamNation Bowl Pick'em Contest, sponsored by Rams Book Store.
BuffRamMom, who held sole possession of the lead going into the day, fell into a four-tie at 23-12 with Bezzie_Wifey, state, and Ro Sham Bo, who came into the day just one game behind, but picked to Auburn's cover. Thus, the final standings came down to the total points in the BCS Championship game. BuffRamMom must have been pulling her hair out during the game as she saw her lead in the contest evaporating, but as the points kept racking up in the fourth quarter, so improved her chances of still winning. She predicted the exact total score of the game at 65, and thus takes first place and the $100 store credit to Rams Book Store. Ro Sham Bo takes second place with his prediction of 62 points to earn the $50 credit. Bezzie_Wifey takes third with a guess of 59 points, earing the $25 store credit. State was the odd man out of the prizes with a guess of 56 points. (Winners, please email us to arrange collecting your prize.) Check the Game-by-game results/standings link for full final results.
It was an impressive run for BuffRamMom, who had three separate five-game winning streaks during the bowl season, including the final five games prior to the BCS Championship game. And Ro Sham Bo and Bezzie_Wifey each won their last three games of the season to cinch second and third place, respectively. SteamboatRamFan, Rock n Ram, Ram Fan 2, LoboDogg, and Who's Your Rammy all finished one game behind. Who's Your Rammy, who guessed 67 total points in the tiebreaker, would have been in the running for second place had he just picked his beloved CSU Rams to cover the spread in the New Mexico three weeks ago. He's probably kicking himself for that one. He's one of just 35 contestants to pick against the Rams, and was the only one in the top 25 of the final standings. Who knew taking the Rams to cover would be so important?
With the underdog covering Monday night, the final record was 17 covers for the favorites and 17 for the underdogs, with the underdogs winning outright in 13 of those 17 games. (The Capital One Bowl was a "pick'em" line.) The field finished on a disappointing note. For about three-quarters of the bowl season we owned a plus-.500 winning percentage, but faltered down the stretch to finish at 48.9%. Thosedernramz had a nightmare bowl season, taking the Toilet Bowl with a lowly record of 9-26 and losing 13 of the final 14 games. Better luck next year!
So, that wraps up our bowl contest. Thank you all for playing, and congratulations to the winners! Stay tuned for the March Madness contest in a few months!
