RB Fan holds on for the Championship -- the first repeat champion in the contest's 13-year history
FINAL RESULTS--Three weeks ago, it seemed unlikely that anybody would catch RB Fan, who owned a six-game lead over the next-closest contestant. Turns out, he had to sweat it out in this final week as he recorded just 6 correct picks -- his third-lowest score of the year -- to keep the door ajar. He finishes the season at 107 Contest Wins (net total, factoring in throwing out each contestant's worst two weeks.) A couple contestants threatened, but couldn't come up with a big enough score this week to catch RB Fan. SlamBamRam3 recorded 9 wins, but needed 11 to force the tie, and ended up with 105 Contest Wins. As a result, RB Fan wins the title in the 2013 RamNation Pigskin Pick'em Contest sponsored by Rams Book Store. He earns the $100 store credit to Rams Book Store and becomes the first-ever repeat champion.
RB Fan also won the title in 2009 with 109 Contest Wins and 123 Season Wins, good for a 58.6% winning percentage (fifth-best all time). It matters little that his 56% winning percentage this year ranks 11th in the 13-year history of the contest. What matters is that he bested the rest of the field, in a relatively tough season for prognosticating. Curiously enough, RB Fan has never won an individual week, but now owns two championships. He's proven to be one of the most consistent performers over the years, as he came into the year ranked 19th all-time in winning percentage at 50.75%. Congratulations to RB Fan on his unprecedented feat! (Please email us to arrange collecting your prize.)
As previously mentioned, SlamBamRam3 fell just short, but finishes in second place at 105 Contest Wins and earns the $50 store credit to Rams Book Store. CSUCUDAD2 has been near the top of the leaderboard for much of the second half of the season and could have caught RB Fan with a 10-win week. Unfortunately for him, he could only manage a 7, and thus finishes in third place with 104 Contest wins. He actually tied Gwebb who made a strong late push himself, but CSUCUDAD wins the tiebreaker due to having a better winning percentage -- 56.5% vs. 53.6%. CSUCUDAD2 wins the $25 store credit to Rams Book Store.

Congratulations to each of you on a terrific performance this year! Also, we owe a congratulations to Week 14's weekly winner, which was durward ram, who won the week with 10 correct picks. He tied four other contestants (reecieramfan, Jmont16, crafdog, Good SHEPHERD, and WEB) but won via the total score tiebreaker in the CSU-Air Force game. His guess of 70 total points in the game was closest to the actual total of 71. Reecieramfan was bidding to become only the second contestant ever to win three times in one season, and unfortunately, was 17 points off her tiebreaker guess. She would have also become just the second contestant to ever win back-to-back weeks. (SMARUSCOG did it in 2001.)
Speaking of multiple week winners, Durward Ram's win is his second weekly win of the year, and he joins the elite club of contestants who have won multiple weeks in a year. As mentioned, he's the second contestant to do it this year, matching Reecieramfan, who also won two weeks this season. Others over the years include: ramwriter (2012), Gwebb (2011), 21stCentry Schitzoid Ram (2011), WEB (2001 and 2009), SMARUSCOG (2001), Ram Stein (2003), Reccon (2004), BigAl (2006), and BoomBoomRam (three wins in 2010). There have now been four instances of multiple contestants winning two or more weeks in a season. Durward ram and Reecieramfan did it this year, Gwebb and 21stCentry Schitzoid each won a pair of weeks in 2011, RamReecieramfan and BoomBoomRam did it in 2010 (BoomBoom won three times that year), and WEB and SMARUSCOG did it 2001. (SMARUSCOG is the only contestant ever to do it in back-to-back weeks). BoomBoomRam is the only one to ever have won three weeks in one year. Durward Ram probably should have been more dilligent in turning in entries this year. He missed three weeks and still finished the season in a tie of 69th place. He recorded just two double-digit weeks, and both of them were good enough to win the weekly prize. (As a reminder, please email us to arrange collecting your prize.) By the way, BoomBoomRam, who has had his fair share of success in this contest over the years, finished the season with a whimper, tying Rams To Dominate for the Toilet Bowl this week with a lowly 3.
Now for the bad news....the field turned in its third-worst performance of the year, with a lowly 45.8% winning percentage. And thus, we missed our goal of finishing above .500 for the season. We've only done it four times in the 13-year history of the contest, but had done it in each of the last three seasons. So, we conclude the season at 49.59%, which is good for sixth-best all time.
So that puts a wrap on the 2013 RamNation Pigskin Pick'em sponsored by Rams Book Store. Thank you all for playing. Now keep an eye out for our annual Bowl Pick'em, which is just around the corner. We all start anew as we pick each and every game throughout the bowl season with prizes on the line.
And as always, please join me in thanking Rams Bookstore for their 13th year of sponsorship to this contest. When you're in need of CSU memorabilia, gear, or school books, Rams Bookstore should be your first choice!
